Swimmer’s Itch at Hightower Lake

Attention Residents and Visitors:

Newfield Township has been made aware that people who have had contact with Hightower Lake in and around the Lake Park have contracted Swimmer’s Itch. To reduce your risk, please be sure to dry off completely with a clean towel, shower as soon as is practicable after exiting the water. If a rash appears, use an anti-itch cortisone cream and avoid contact with people with compromised immune systems.

As always, swimming at any Township park, beach, or river access site is done at your own risk and no water quality testing is done by the Township.

Spring Clean Up Day

Newfield Township’s Spring Clean Up Day will be held on Saturday May 30, 2026 from 8am-Noon (unless we fill up early).

Eligible Materials include:

  • Household Goods (no chemicals)
  • Construction Materials
  • Metals
  • Old Batteries

Please note that Yard Waste, TV’s, Electronics and Hazardous Waste will NOT be ACCEPTED

Tires will be Accepted ONLY IF CUT IN HALF

The Newfield Township Recycling Center will be open for residents to bring their recyclables!!

 

PLEASE No Early or Late Dumping! The property is under 24/7 surveillance. Theft of scrap metal will be prosecuted. Proof of residency will be required!

April Township Board Meeting Date Change

Notice is hereby given that the Newfield Township Board will meet on Tuesday April 28th, 2026 at 7:00pm at the Newfield Township Hall located at 3890 S 198th Ave, Hesperia, MI 49421.

This differs from the normal scheduled date of April 21, 2026 due to multiple scheduling conflicts.

Planning Commission

The Newfield Township Planning Commission will next meet Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 6:30pm at the Newfield Township Hall.

A Public Hearing will be held on a proposed Special Use/Cell Tower Permit application requested by The Towers LLC for property at E Gale Road, Hesperia MI (Parcel Number 014-003-400-06). The Special Use/Cell Tower Permit is to allow the construction of a 250-foot cell towner in an A-1 Zoning District. This Property is zoned for agricultural activities.

This will be the only opportunity for public input on this application. Written responses will be read, however they must be received at the Newfield Township Hall 3890 S 180th Ave (PO Box 564) Hesperia, MI 49421 by Friday March 6, 2026 to be considered.

The Newfield Township Board of Review will meet for its March session on the following dates:

Monday March 9, 2026: 9am-3pm

Wednesday March 11, 2026: 3pm-9pm

Recycle Update

Dear Residents,

Out of an abundance of caution, we are making the decision now to close the Newfield Township Recycle Center for Saturday, January 24, 2026 due to expected low temperatures and dangerous wind chills. The safety of our volunteers and our residents is of the greatest importance to us.

Please stay safe and warm this weekend. Check on your neighbors. We are all in this together.

Office Closure due to Federal Holiday

The Newfield Township Offices will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Holiday. The Treasurer will be in the office on Tuesday January 20 for the collection of property taxes. You can always make an appointment with any Township Official if you have an urgent need.

The Newfield Township Board meetings will be held on the Third Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm

The Newfield Township Planning Commission meetings will be held on the Second Tuesday of the following months: January, March, May, June, September, and November at 7:00pm.
